As our newly appointed Dispute Resolution Litigation Executive, you will be responsible for your own civil litigation caseload, dealing with cases through to settlement or to Court Hearing.

Role Responsibilities

Day to day responsibilities include:

 

  • Manage your own civil litigation caseload including but not limited to property disputes including boundary disputes, property damage and rights of access, landlord and tenant disputes including eviction, possession proceedings, breach of tenancy agreements and housing disrepair, consumer disputes, contract disputes, and debt / money claims.
  • Provide a high level of customer service to clients at all times.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring cases meet prescribed internal service level agreements. In addition, you will be focussed on achieving individual targets (file progression/shelf-life targets.)
  • Perform fee earning work accurately, reliably and in accordance with the Company’s quality and risk procedures and with supplier service level agreements.
  • Manage your task list and organise the working day/week and ensure that the cases are kept up to date at all times and progressed in accordance with client’s instructions the Civil Procedure Rules.
  • Consistently achieve KPIs and individual objectives and targets whilst understanding the commercial needs of the business.
  • Produce fee income in line with billing targets and agreed objectives.
  • Work with the Dispute Resolution Team Manager to develop new business.
  • Utilise the Company’s in-house bespoke case management system in accordance with the Company’s protocols ensuring that all relevant fields are completed so that accurate MI/reports can be generated.
  • Keep informed of all changes in the Law and Practice in your own area of work and maintain and enhance up to date legal skills.
  • Carry out detailed reviews of evidence and advising clients on prospects of success.
  • Establish and focus upon issues/facts in dispute in the context of liability; to utilise case law where necessary; to make effective Part 36 Offers and enter into negotiations and draft settlement agreements.
  • Progress cases through to issuing Legal Proceedings in line with client’s instructions and as efficiently as possible.
  • Drafting Pleadings Application Notices, Disclosure Lists, Witness Statements, Schedules of Loss, Briefs to Counsel, Trial Bundle Indexes and Case Summaries.
  • Apply the principles of funding/indemnity with Legal Expenses Insurance where applicable.
  • Attend conferences and site meetings with clients, Counsel and experts where appropriate.
  • Instruct Counsel, experts, and other professionals necessary to assist with the progression of the case.
  • Attend Court (in person or remotely) and perform advocacy for Case Management Conferences, Application Hearings and Pre-Trial Reviews where appropriate.
  • Attend mediation and Court Trials where appropriate.
  • Billing private paying clients in line with the terms of the retainer.

What we need from you

We require a person who:

 

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in civil litigation.
  • Strong, confident communicator who can successfully establish excellent working relationships with clients and external third parties such as barristers.
  • Excellent client care skills along with excellent written and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to high standards and collaborative teamwork.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills, with a proven track record in meeting deadlines.
  • Highly organised and thorough with an ability to prioritise workload and take decisions commensurate to the role.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • A positive can-do attitude with a flexible approach to a wide variety of tasks.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and a desire to learn, progress and develop.
  • Keen to develop your knowledge and skills and have the motivation to assist on more complex dispute resolution matters.
  • Able to work flexibly as needed.
  • Competent use of MS Office required.
