This includes South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Berkshire, Cumbria and Scotland with an overseas arm. Through these brands we offer a full range of consumer legal services as well as wholesale and legal expense insurance products and more.

We are recruiting a Chief Operating Officer whose role is to oversee our regional brands and shared services to provide those centralised services and deliver the performance expected of the brands within the group.

Role Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for the firm’s day to day operations
  • Oversee and optimise internal processes and workflows to maximise efficiency and productivity.
  • Monitor performance metrics and implement strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Building and managing relationships with suppliers, vendors, partners and clients, including building and managing relationships with the firm’s legal teams and Sector Heads in the supply of support services to these teams and departments.
  • Manage and allocate resources effectively including budgeting and staffing.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks.
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies and business contingency and disaster recovery plans.
  • Ensure each branch operates in alignment with the firm’s standards, policies, strategy and budget.
  • Oversee the IT, Operations, Facilities and Estate Management, HR / People, Recruitment and Training departments on a day-to-day basis.
  • Work closely with the CEO / FD who oversees overall business strategy and financials.
  • Collaborate with the CLO, who oversees the legal teams of the business

What we need from you

  • High degree of interpersonal and human relations skills. Must be able to collaborate with and consult with a wide range of people across the business;
  • Self-managing individual, capable of working autonomously;
  • A positive can-do attitude with a flexible approach to a wide variety of tasks.
  • Demonstrates a proactive and people-centric approach;
  • Demonstrates a motivation and desire for people to learn, progress and develop;
  • Able to work flexibly as needed to hit set targets and deadlines;
  • A flexible and pro-active approach to cope with constantly changing environment and priorities.
  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, business management, law or other relevant disciplines.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a senior management operational role preferably at Board level.
  • Experience of working within the legal sector desirable but not essential.
  • In-depth knowledge of managing multi-disciplinary teams, including experience of
  • human resources, marketing, strategic planning and corporate finance
  • Proven experience of managing multiple branches or locations.
  • Ability to manage comprehensive budgets and business operations
  • Exceptional leadership and organisational skills
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills
  • Proficiency in business development
  • Ability to work with data analysis tools, accounting software and industry-specific technologies
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic plans.
